Plug-and-Play Wireless Modules

Wireless Connectivity Made Easy

When it comes to wireless product design, easy is not the first word that comes to mind. Navigating the technical considerations—protocols, RF performance and certifications—makes wireless product designing seem impossible or at least like it will take forever. Though wireless connectivity is complex, it need not be slow or difficult.

For years, we have been leading the way in making wireless accessible to everyone. We were one of the first companies to offer an integrated solution that combined a wireless chip with an on-board antenna in a single device called a module, which reduced risk and time to market.

Our plug-and-play wireless module portfolio takes ease of use further. Features of these plug-and-play devices include:

  • Easy to control, using simple text commands
  • An antenna for optimized performance
  • Global regulatory certified
  • Easy to connect to the microcontroller (MCU) in your design

If you’re ready to simplify wireless design, you’re in the right place.

Is a Plug-and-Play Wireless Module Right for Your Project?

What Is Plug-and-Play?

Plug-and-play wireless modules are pre-programmed modules that execute wireless functions using simple ASCII text commands. User-friendly and requiring minimal setup, plug-and-play modules are companion devices that send these commands using a UART interface (a common communication protocol in embedded systems) to any MCU.

The pre-programming sets plug-and-play devices apart from other wireless modules and SoCs. They lower the barrier to entry in wireless designs because they require little knowledge about the network stack or programming skills. The extra code allows you to add wireless to your design and create a connection using only a few simple text commands.

Why Plug-and-Play?

Choosing a plug-and-play module offers several advantages.

1. Ease of Use
These modules come pre-programmed and are controlled using simple ASCII text commands, making them accessible even to those with limited programming skills.

2. Time to Market
Plug-and-play modules significantly shorten the development and certification process by eliminating the need for complex coding and RF design. They are a good choice for projects with short development timelines.

3. Comprehensive Functionality
Despite their simplicity, these modules do not compromise on security or cloud connectivity, providing all the necessary features for a successful design.

Benefits of Plug-and-Play Modules

Plug-and-Play Modules Versus Regular Modules

The primary difference between plug-and-play and regular modules lies in the programming requirements. Plug-and-play modules are pre-programmed and ready to use with simple commands, while regular modules require additional coding and setup.

Both modules can reduce development time and cost, but plug-and-play modules offer the added benefit of a simplified control interface, making them ideal for IoT designers looking to bring products to market quickly with minimal technical resources.
