Standard Microsystems Corporation History

SMSC was a leading developer of Smart Mixed-Signal Connectivity solutions. Committed to providing connectivity solutions that enabled the widespread distribution of data across automobiles, consumer devices, PCs and other applications, SMSC had an innovative product lineup that included USB, MOST^® technology automative networking, Kleer® technology, the JukeBlox^® wireless audio platform, embedded system control and analog solutions such as thermal management and RightTouch capacitive sensing technology.

SMSC sold its ICs globally and offered complex, tailored, multi-functional solutions to meet the specific needs of its customers. The company was a key semiconductor supplier to consumer electronics companies. By collaborating with industry-leading customers, SMSC developed semi-custom and Application-Specific Standard Products (ASSPs) that allowed users to access and transfer their assets with ease and speed.

Microchip announced the acquisition of SMSC on May 2, 2012. The acquisition was completed on August 2, 2012.
