The CLB is a reconfigurable digital logic module, similar to a CPLD, that is integrated into the microcontroller (MCU) and performs hardware-based digital logic independent of the CPU. This results in fast and predictable response times for a diverse range of applications, such as automotive and industrial. The CLB enables much larger hardware-based digital logic designs than previously possible on an MCU and is also capable of operating in sleep mode, allowing complex processing to occur with very low power consumption.
Join us for our 2025 Configurable Logic Design Challenge. With expert judges, free development tools and a $10,000 prize pool, this contest is an excellent opportunity to show off your design skills using our innovative CLB peripheral. A graphical CLB configuration tool is integrated into MPLAB® Code Configurator (MCC) for increased development speed and convenience. The tool, which is also offered online, allows logic designs to be sketched, aiding visualization. After the design is finished, the tool optimizes, synthesizes and outputs a CLB bitstream for the device to use. Alternatively, pre-built libraries can be dragged and dropped into the tool to implement common use cases.
We also offer dedicated Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs) with up to 128 macrocells and 160 Input/Output (I/O) pins for more complex and larger-scale designs.
