What is PMD?

PMD is a power-saving feature found in PIC® microcontrollers (MCUs). PMD shuts down unused peripherals to reduce their power consumption to minimal levels. When PMD is active for a peripheral, the peripheral:

  • Is held in reset
  • Writes are disabled
  • Outputs are disabled

PMD is controlled by software and peripherals that have been shut down can be restarted at runtime.
