Gas and Water Utility companies are interested in Sub-GHz technology due to better trade-off between power consumption and radio range. Typically, these meters are placed in hostile environments like underground vaults and Sub-GHz radios have better range than 2.4GHz radios. Microchip offers various Sub-Ghz solutions ranging from 300MHz to 950MHz. Microchip offers MiWi™ networking protocol which supports peer-to-peer and mesh networking topologies and supports both 2.4GHz and Sub-GHz radios. Power Line Modem

Microchip offers low cost software programmable BPSK power line modem solutions for the CELENEC consumer and utility frequency bands. Using dsPIC® digital signal controller, the power line modem is implemented in software, enabling a flexible system that can evolve with the changing demands of the energy metering market.
