Motor Control
Modern industrial and consumer motor applications are dominated by 3-phase AC Induction Motors (ACIMs), Brushless DC (BLDC) motors and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs). These types of motors require intelligent controllers running complex control algorithms like V/Hz, block commutation and Field-Oriented Control (FOC) to generate signals for an efficient and responsive motor drive.
MPLAB® Harmony v3 provides software building blocks that include peripheral libraries, application libraries and fully functional demo examples for intelligent motor control. These demo examples are pre-configured to run on our various motor control development boards to make it easy prototyping your motor drive applications.
- For 3-phase ACIM used in pumps, fans, and industrial motor drives: V/Hz ACIM Motor Control Demo
- For sensored BLDC and PMSM motors used in drive applications requiring high starting torque like e-bikes, power tools and 3D printers:
- For applications like ceiling fans, drones, pumps, compressors and washing machines, where cost-sensitive sensorless control is preferred, we offer solutions for sensorless FOC of a PMSM with a variety of sensorless estimators and some solutions supporting flux weakening, windmilling (on-the-fly startup) and Max Torque Per Ampere (MTPA):

MCHV-3 High-Voltage Development Board

The Microchip MCHV-3 Development Board aids in the rapid evaluation and development of a wide variety of high-voltage motor control applications. This development board is targeted to control Brushless DC (BLDC) motors, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), and AC Induction Motors (ACIM) in both sensored and sensorless operation.
