What is USB?

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a ubiquitous type of serial communication often used with desktop computers and high-performance embedded systems, such as those based on 32-bit microprocessors (MPUs). Our 8-bit peripherals can be used to create a USB device that is capable of USB 2.0 Full Speed (12 Mbps) communication.

Why Use USB?

USB provides a common and consistent way to interface a host with a variety of devices such as mass-storage devices, networking interfaces, or virtual COM devices. USB devices are often portable, which means they need to be able to interface with different hosts on the fly.
