Description
The industry drive toward smaller, lighter and more efficient electronics has led to the development of the Switch Mode Power Supply Topologies (SMPS). There are several switch mode power supply topologies that are commonly used to implement SMPS and several different digital control techniques. This application note explains the basics of different types of SMPS topologies and their applications. The pros and cons of different SMPS topologies are also explained in this application note. This application note will guide the user to select an appropriate topology for a given application, while providing useful information regarding selection of electrical and electronic components for a given SMPS design.
