Today’s logistics demands greater visibility, safety and control over transport operations; however, traditional systems often lack real-time insights into cargo conditions and equipment status. Our smart transport demo addresses these challenges with a Bluetooth®-based trailer monitoring network configured in a star topology.
This scalable solution connects sensors inside a semi-trailer to a central hub, enabling real-time monitoring of doors, cargo and HVAC systems. Supporting up to six peripheral devices, it enables reliable communication that helps fleets operate more intelligently, safely and efficiently.

A Bluetooth star network is a wireless topology where multiple peripheral devices connect to a single central device, creating a hub-and-spoke structure. The central hub coordinates communication, enabling efficient data exchange with minimal latency. This configuration is optimal for applications where a central hub collects data from multiple sensors.
This network architecture is enabled by Bluetooth LE’s multirole and multilink capabilities, allowing a device to function as both a central and peripheral while maintaining multiple simultaneous connections.
In simple terms, a star network allows one device to talk to many other devices at once, even across different roles. This configuration offers a scalable, low-power solution for real-time monitoring and control.
The cabin display collects real-time data from all connected sensors, enabling passengers to monitor and control system activity from inside the trailer.
The smart phone interface enables offsite monitoring and management of trailer systems, providing users with remote access to adjust settings and track performance.
The central network unit functions as the hub within the Bluetooth LE star network to manage communication among various sensors, actuators and the cabin display.
Faults or emergencies activate the alarm system. Upon detecting an issue, the trailer’s central network unit triggers the trailer’s alarm control to alert users.
The AI/ML-enabled thermostat sensor monitors and reports trailer temperature, automatically adjusting the HVAC system to maintain the desired setpoint.
The lighting control module manages trailer illumination, enabling users to adjust lighting and brightness levels via the cabin display or a smartphone.
This module controls the rear door, providing access to the trailer through physical touch using a keypad or remotely through the cabin display.
The solar panel system monitors voltage levels and reports them to the central network unit, updating the cabin display with real-time performance data.
