Overview of the Enhanced Mid Range Core Architecture of PIC MCUs
Building upon the success of Microchips popular Mid-Range Core, Microchip continues to invest in its 8-bit PIC® Microcontroller line to provide a broad product portfolio that meets the needs of existing and future customers. The new enhanced Mid-Range core builds upon the best elements of the existing Mid-Range core and provides additional performance, while maintaining compatibility with existing Mid-Range PIC Microcontrollers for true product migration.
The enhanced Mid-Range core provides numerous technical improvements over the existing Mid-Range core including:
• Up to 56 KB of Flash Program Memory
• Up to 4 KB of Data Memory
• C Optimizations for Code Size Reductions
• Enhanced 16 Level Hardware Stack with Optional RESET Capabilities
• Automatic Interrupt Context Save of Core Registers
• Enhanced Indirect Addressing
• Increased Peripheral Support
• Simplified Register Map
