The Microchip USB4712 is a low-power, configurable, USB 2.0 hub controller with 1 downstream port and advanced features for embedded USB applications. Advanced features include Auto-FlexConnect capability , IO bridging, and embedded 32 bit mico-controller. The USB4712 is compliant with the USB 2.0 Specification and has passed AEC-Q100, grade 3 testing. .
Microchip’s Auto-FlexConnect technology allows for easy port reversals or “role swapping” between the upstream host port and any downstream device ports. This unique capability allows for the smartphone ecosystem of software and applications to be connected to the automobile infotainment system. As the chip is a USB compliant hub, the serial bus is re-timed so that robust signal integrity is achieved while extending the distance between the infotainment system and the USB passenger port. Advanced IO bridging allows connectivity to be extended to GPIO, I2C, SPI, and UART so that the USB Smart hub becomes the center for system connectivity and control.
The USB4712 has been specifically optimized for embedded systems where high performance, and minimal BOM costs are critical design requirements. Standby mode power has been minimized and reference clock inputs can be aligned to the customer’s specific application. The USB-IF Battery Charger specification (revision 1.2) is supported on up and downstream ports, as well as Apple and China profiles. In addition, all required resistors on the USB ports are integrated into the hub, including all series termination and pull-up/pull-down resistors on the D+ and D– pins
The USB4712 is the next generation of USB4604 providing fast time to market, minimal / zero head-unit integration, and low system design risk.
