Device Overview

Summary

The UPD360 is a highly integrated small form factor USB Type-C/PD controller compliant with USB Type-C™ specification and USB Power Delivery specification v.2.0. UPD360 provides cable detection and orientation, and implements baseband communication with a partner USB Type-C/PD Device. UPD360 can function as a standalone charger or as a companion Power Delivery controller to an external MCU/SoC, using the integrated I2C/SPI interface.

The UPD360 integrates two VCONN FETs with Rp/Rd switching, a port power controller that supports up to 5V/3A on VBUS, with over-current and over-voltage detection. The device also supports Alternate Modes, like DisplayPort and HDMI. In the companion mode a software stack executes in the external MCU/SoC to support DRP modes, power profiles and alternate mode functionality.

The UPD360 targets a wide range of applications in Consumer (Notebooks, Monitors, Docking Stations) and Industrial (Point of Sale Systems, Printers) market segments.
