The RN131 is a full-featured 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi module, and a complete, ultra-low power embedded TCP/IP solution. The combination of ultra-low power and the ability to wake up, connect to a wireless network, send data, and return to sleep mode in less than 100 milliseconds, allows the RN131 to run for years on two standard AAA batteries. Using only 35mA when awake and 4µA when asleep, this remarkable power efficiency makes possible a new class of internet-enabled products.
For evaluating the RN131 module, Microchip offers the RN-131-EK, an evaluation kit that can be used to quickly add Wi-Fi connectivity to embedded applications. As simple as plugging in a USB drive, it has the flexibility to connect directly to a PC via a standard USB interface or to embedded processors through the TTL/UART interface.
Microchip also offers the small form factor 802.11 b/g RN171 Wi-Fi module for embedded Wi-Fi applications.
