Reduce the cost and development time of your functional safety application with our AVR SD MCUs. Designed to comply with the ISO 26262 (ASIL C) and IEC 61508 (SIL 2) functional safety standards, these MCUs facilitate the certification of your end system with a complete suite of safety documentation (FMEDAs, safety manual, DFA, compliance reports and more). AVR SD MCUs offer built-in hardware safety features for fast and deterministic error detection and they are accompanied by ASIL C/SIL 2-compliant software (safety framework) and safety-related software documentation.
The AVR SD Safety Framework complements the device's hardware safety architecture by coordinating its interconnected safety mechanisms through a controlled software lifecycle. It initializes and monitors the safety system, schedules fault-injection and latent-fault diagnostics alongside the application under watchdog supervision, centralizes software and hardware error handling and manages safe state transitions and reset recovery. The framework is ISO 26262 ASIL C and IEC 61508 SIL 2 compliant and is developed under our TÜV Rheinland-certified functional safety management system. It also supports IEC 60730 Class C certification activities.
The configurable C99 source code provides defined extension points for application software. This lets developers focus on the application while the framework manages the device-level safety flow. Public API and architecture documentation are freely available. Developers can also request free, immediate access to the framework source code as a ZIP download or through a private GitHub repository. The paid Functional Safety Package adds the safety, compliance and verification collateral required to assess and integrate the framework within an application safety concept. It includes the Software Safety Manual, safety analyses, MISRA C:2025 compliance documentation and the unit-test source, results and code coverage reports demonstrating 100% modified condition/decision coverage (MC/DC).

Are you worried about the increased design complexity and developmental costs of meeting higher safety standards? Our application note discusses how to use the decomposition method when creating an ASIL D/SIL 3 E-Fuse application to reduce software development effort (equivalent to implementing ASIL B/SIL 2 twice), deliver substantial cost savings and provide scalability. Explore the benefits of this modular solution and simplify the development of your next higher safety compliance design.
