Overview
PL485-EK is an evaluation kit for the PL485, a programmable System On Chip (SOC) for narrow-band Power Line Communication (PLC) from Microchip. PL485 is a highly integrated PLC device which requires reduced PCB area and simplifies the design layout.
PL485-EK has been designed to be directly connected to low-voltage DC power rails covering the frequency range 95 .. 125kHz, as an example for industrial low-range applications. The kit can be coupled to the AC mains by means of Microchip accessory PLC-AC-Coupler. The kit can be also modified to address additional frequency bands following Microchip reference designs and design recommendations.
- PL485 EK is designed to be directly connected to low voltage DC power railsThe kit can be connected to AC mains by means of PLC-AC-Coupler accessory from Microchip (see “Related Tools” tab)
- PL485-EK implements a coupling circuit optimized for the band 95 to 125kHz, compliant with CENELEC standard EN50065
- This EK can be modified to transmit in other frequency ranges below 500kHz, please check our Application Notes.
- PL485-EK is provided by default with “PLC&Go” example for basic point-to-multipoint connectivity
- Ready to use G3-PLC firmware for CENELEC-B profile can be downloaded from this website
- mikroBUS™ and XPLAINED-PRO connectors available
- On board Embedded Debugger enables:
- Programming and debugging
- Virtual COM port (CDC)
- Bicolor status LED
