Microchip-Panasonic Magic Knob™ (MPMK) Technology


Our MPMK solutions have been designed by Panasonic Industry Ltd (PID), and the reference knobs are available from PID. These solutions require a three-way NDA to be signed.

maXTouch KoD Controller Operation


KoD technology enables you to mount capacitive rotary encoders, also called rotary knobs, over a touch panel. The knob is a passive mechanical element, specifically designed to include at least one conductive pad. The maXTouch KoD touchscreen controller senses the pad capacitively through the touch sensor. Its patented algorithms ensure the correct sensing and calibration of the knob’s location while maintaining  multi-touch operation for the rest of the touchscreen.

This reference design is for a capacitive rotary encoder with a push-button function. You can select a knob from your preferred manufacturer, and then use this reference design to evaluate KoD technology and prototype your design. It features:

  • 22.05 mm inner diameter
  • 24 detents (clicks)
  • Push-button function

Knob-on-Display™ (KoD™) Touch Controller Family

This reference design of capacitive rotary knobs, developed in collaboration with ddm hopt+schuler, enables precise rotational input and integrated push-button functionality on a touch panel. It is designed to help evaluate KoD performance and accelerate prototyping for next-generation HMIs. It features:

  • 50 mm outer diameter
  • 24 detents (clicks)
  • Push-button function
  • Customizable top cap material/finish
