DC-DC Converters for New Space and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Applications

The Low Earth Orbit (LEO) market is rapidly growing as private and public entities explore New Space; the exploration of New Space requires everything from 5G communication and cube satellites to IoT applications. There is an increased demand for standard space-grade solutions that are reliable, cost effective and configurable. To meet this market need, we designed our radiation-tolerant LE50-28 series of isolated DC-DC converters. These devices are off-the-shelf 50W power converters available in nine variants with single and triple outputs that range from 3.3V to 28V.

The current market contains either commercial power converters that are not radiation tolerant, which poses a great risk to the satellite mission life, or expensive radiation-hardened power converters. The LE50 fills the gap between these two by offering a cost-effective radiation-tolerant solution for satellite missions.

LE50-28 Family

The LE50-28 is a space-grade, radiation-tolerant DC-DC power converter featuring surface-mount construction for enhanced flexibility and customization. Compliant with Mil-Std-461, Mil-Std-883, and Mil-Std-202 standards, it enables rapid development and reduced risk using off-the-shelf technology. Available in nine variants with single or triple outputs, the LE50-28 series supports scalable designs up to 200 Watts and includes a companion EMI filter. It offers 50 Krad TID radiation tolerance and 37 MeV·cm²/mg SEE latch-up immunity. Designed for 28V bus systems, LE50-28 converters integrate seamlessly with PolarFire® FPGAs, MCUs, and LX7720-RT motor control sensors for comprehensive electrical system solutions.
