Our PIC32CM SG series are entry-level 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) built on the Arm® Cortex®-M23 processor. These MCUs offer up to 512 KB Flash and 128 KB SRAM and connectivity options, such as USB, CAN FD and standard serial communication, and are available in 48-, 64- and 100-pin packages.
This MCU family has security at its core, so it is a strong fit for automotive, industrial and other applications that need to meet standards like ISO 26262 or IEC 62443. Built-in security features include secure boot, firmware updates, authentication and hardware-backed cryptographic operations.
What sets this MCU family apart is its layered security architecture: Arm® TrustZone® for Armv8-M, an on-chip Hardware Security Module (HSM-Lite), Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) technology, TrustRAM for tamper-resistant key storage and support for IAR™ Embedded Trust for software-based secure boot and signed firmware updates.
PUF generates a unique cryptographic key from nano-scale silicon variations at power-up—no key is ever stored in memory, and even if the chip is stolen, the key cannot be extracted or cloned.
TrustRAM is hardened, secure RAM with active tamper shielding for ephemeral key storage in which addresses and data content are scrambled to prevent side-channel detection and wiped if any physical tampering is detected.
As quantum computing advances, today's encryption standards may no longer be enough. The PIC32CM SG00 supports quantum-safe algorithms, including ML-KEM and ML-DSA, so your products stay secure long after they leave the design phase.
A dedicated encrypted Flash region keeps your secret data—certificates, keys and credentials—physically separated from application code so that sensitive assets stay isolated at rest.
The Hardware Security Module (HSM-Lite) available with the PIC32CM SG family offers the following features:

Jump-start your projects with our MPLAB Tools for Microsoft® Visual Studio® Code (VS Code) that offers a user-friendly interface and robust features tailored for Arm® Cortex®-M0+ MCUs. Benefit from seamless project imports, intuitive debugging tools and the innovative MPLAB AI Coding Assistant.
This AI-powered MPLAB Extension provides real-time code generation, error detection and direct access to our data sheets so that you spend less time troubleshooting and more time innovating.
MPLAB Harmony v3 is a flexible, fully integrated embedded software development framework for 32-bit MCUs. It includes peripheral libraries, drivers and system services that enable Real-Time Operating System (RTOS)-friendly development with extensive third-party integration support. The framework maximizes code reuse and reduces time to market.
We have partnered with IAR to provide you with a practical, proven path toward EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance, without a board respin. IAR Embedded Trust delivers secure-by-default and secure-by-design, integrated secure boot and security update workflows, including firmware signing, that work with a variety of our MCUs.
This is your starting point on the security journey. Your existing investment is protected, and your path toward a more secure, compliant design can begin with an immutable boot process and secure software updates.
For devices that also integrate hardware security features, such as HSM and HSM-Lite with TrustZone® support, IAR Embedded Trust complements the on-chip capabilities by providing secure firmware signing, with optional enhanced encrypted update workflows, alongside the hardware root of trust.
