Description
Description
This application note is intended to provide guidance for applications that utilize UCS100x to create single or dual mode charger solutions. A single mode charger has only one active mode. For example to create a BC1.2 CDP charger, it would be comprised of a USB host and a UCS100x in BC1.2 CDP Active mode. In a dual mode charger, the UCS100x would be capable of switching between two active modes, such as a BC1.2 CDP charger and also as a Legacy charger in Dedicated Charger Emulation (DCE) mode. Charger mode control is via the three emulation control pins (M1, M2, and EM_EN), as well as the Attach / Remove Detect pin (S0). Control can be via the actual pins themselves or via SMBus (if using UCS1002). Proper charging mode control is important to ensure maximal application effectiveness and stability. This application note does not address other conditions, such as having PWR_EN enabled, that are required for UCS100x to be in Active power state.
