Create a Smart Asset Monitor With a PIC32CM MC00 Curiosity Nano Eval Kit and Google Cloud IoT Core
Note: This video shows the capability of the PIC32CM MC Curiosity Nano Development Kit for the Smart Asset Monitor and similar solutions. Since Google Cloud’s IoT Core Service is being discontinued on August 2023, this video will be updated in the future with an alternative cloud service.
This application demonstrates the implementation of an IoT sensor node on the Google cloud platform. The demo is developed on the PIC32CM MC00 Curiosity Nano Evaluation Kit connected with Curiosity Nano Base, which is a small and easily expandable demonstration and development platform for applications.
The typical IoT application development problem can be partitioned into three blocks:
• Smart (Application logic): Implemented through the PIC 32 CM MC 00 microcontroller
• Security: Implemented through the ATECC-608-B secure element
• Connectivity: Implemented through the AT-WINC-1510 WiFi controller module
This application utilizes Mikroelektronika click interface and Microchip XPRO interfaces available on Curiosity Nano base to create a Google IoT node application. The application demonstrates MQTT data transfer of Object ID (RFID Tag data) and the object surface temperature value (contactless read) to Google IoT cloud.
This application is helpful in RFID-based temperature sensing and monitoring tags. For example, passive RFID temperature sensors are applied to assets and signal an alarm if an asset gets too close to unacceptable temperature levels.
