Power over Ethernet, or PoE, has been around since the late 1990s. It was invented by Microchip’s PoE Business Unit. Originally this technology was used to provide power to network devices such as IP Phones, Cameras and Wireless Access Points. Today it is driving Smarter Buildings and Cities.
