Libero® SoC Design Suite 2023.2 SP1 Receives TÜV® Rhineland Functional Safety Certification

Libero^® System-on-Chip (SoC) Design Suite 2023.2 SP1 Certified to ISO 26262 ASIL D and IEC 61508 SIL 3 by TÜV^® Rhineland for SmartFusion^® 2 and IGLOO^® 2 Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)

Microchip is pleased to announce a significant update in our functional safety support for the SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 FPGA families. Our FPGA development environment, Libero SoC Design Suite Version 2023.2 SP1, is now certified for ISO 26262 ASIL D and IEC 61508 SIL 3, providing robust support for both automotive and industrial safety-critical applications.

This updated certification supersedes the previous qualification based on Libero SoC Design Suite Version 11.8 SP4, which was limited to IEC 61508 SIL 3. While compliant, the earlier version required users to implement manual workarounds to address known tool issues, which were documented in the Functional Safety Package Errata – M2S, M2GL.

In contrast, Libero SoC 2023.2 SP1 incorporates fixes and integrates full toolchain-level qualification under both ISO and IEC standards.

Libero SoC 2023.2 SP1 introduces key improvements:

• Tool-level certification to both ISO 26262 ASIL D (the highest automotive safety integrity level) and IEC 61508 SIL 3
• Resolution of software issues present in earlier tool versions, improving functional safety reliability
• Streamlined safety workflows, reducing development effort for safety documentation and compliance

The ISO 26262 standard is particularly stringent, requiring systematic tool qualification, traceability and failure analysis tailored to automotive systems. Its inclusion alongside IEC 61508 offers our customers a broader and more rigorous foundation for safety compliance.

Given these enhancements, we strongly recommend all new customers developing functional safety systems with SmartFusion 2 or IGLOO 2 FPGAs to adopt Libero SoC Design Suite Version 2023.2 SP1. This will ensure alignment with the latest safety standards and provide the most robust and certified development flow available.
