    Thanks

But where's the link to it - the obvious link on page:
    http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=2680&dDocName=en537044

    doesn't work

Is it in the applciation libraires at the bottom of that page?

    Thanks

    OK
My fault - you do say

'The Microchip MCHPUSB Framework is now part of the Microchip Applications Libraries download'

But it might help if the underlined 'MCHPFSUSB Framework v2.6' took you there

Please look in the "<install directory>\Microchip\Help" folder for more details.

Where can I get proper help for the CDC device API?

E.g. in the MCHPFSUSB Library Help.chm file the only description of the putUSBUSART function is "This is function putUSBUSART". Well, I know THAT, I want a description of the parameters and usage. The same problem is true of other functions. Also valid values for enumerated data types are not listed.

In the migration help for differences between 2.5 and 2.6 it states "The files that must be included into a project has changed from v2.5 to v2.6.

Version v2.5 of the MCHPFSUSB stack required multiple include files in order to work properly in device mode.  The usb_device.h, usb.h, usb_config.h, and class specific files (i.e. - “./usb/usb_function_msd.h”) had to be included in all of the application files that accessed the USB stack as well as other common include files like the GenericTypeDefs.h and Compiler.h files.

In MHCPFSUSB v2.6, only the usb.h file and the class specific files (i.e. - “./usb/usb_function_msd.h”) must be included in the project.  The usb_device.h and usb_config.h files should no longer be included in the application specific files."

But looking at the CDC serial demo, it seems that this new rule is violated, e.g. main.c includes files that should no longer be included.

Have the examples been updated to be compliant with the 2.6 version of the library?

I tried several times to download the Microchip Application Libraries from http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=2680&dDocName=en537044 and every time I try to extract it I get an error 'unexpected end of archive' and when I test the zip file I get file is corrupted. Each of the 7 attempts (appended 01, 02, 03, etc to the file name) are identical so I can rule out a bad download.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or is it something I am not doing correctly?

No problems here. What kind of internet connection do you have? It is not a small download.
Try delete your internet cache and then download again. If you use Microsoft IE, you should try Fireforx.

I have a broadband connection that is very reliable, and I never use IE unless I am doing a windows update. Yes I use Firefox.

I suspected that it might be my machine, specifically the antivirus (avast!) so I tried downloading it with my Droid using the 3G network. The file turned out the same.
I also tried downloading it with my laptop running Linux Ubuntu. The file turned out to be the same again. When I tried extracting it under Linux, it was a little more helpful with the error result.

warning [/var/www/downloads/Microchip Application Libraries v2010-02-09 Installer.zip]:  52 extra bytes at beginning or within zipfile
      (attempting to process anyway)
file #1:  bad zipfile offset (local header sig):  52
      (attempting to re-compensate)

error:  invalid compressed data to inflate

I cannot find version 2.5 anywhere, nor individual libraries of the all-inclusive file that has so many different libraries in it. So now I'm pretty much stuck. Could you suggest an alternate approach? Perhaps an FTP link or at least a link to an older version?

Hmm, I see now. They just update the date of the installer (now it is 24-Feb-2010). I have not tried this one. I was downloading the old one a few days ago. I will try this one later.

These are old versions, no V2.5.

Partial download of V2.5 stack here (no examples).

Thank you. Those links gave me quite a few more options. After you check that file and verify my findings, will you let someone know? I don't know the mechanism used here to report a bug.

Thanks again for your time and effort. I appreciate it.

Just to confirm, I've also tried to download the new Applications Libraries several times and each time I get a corrupted ZIP file.

You are right, the file is corrupted.
If it is urgent for you, you can create a ticket at support.microchip.com.

The old link for V2.6 USB Stack (part of the application libraries) is still valid.
"http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/Microchip Application Libraries v2009-11-18 Installer.zip". Type the whole thing in Firefox URL. The forum software may corrupt the link.

Thank you xiaofan. That linked worked fine for me copied and pasted. It also extracted just fine.

I submitted a ticket after jumping through some flaming hoops getting logged in. Not sure what the issue was but I could login just fine for forums, for sales, samples, but the password was incorrect for tickets. ???

    Have a good one!

I am not so sure about the support ticket password issues. Maybe you can PM one of the friendly Microchip forum members here (JasonK, HowardH, etc).

BTW, I have added the links to download old versions of USB stacks here.
    http://www.microchip.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=422691

Apparently you can replace Space with "20%" to get the URL recognized by forum software.

I'm assuming that the version you linked for 2.6 (and many thanks I might add) is the same that is bundled with the corrupted Microchip Applications Library I mentioned above. I noticed the date on the valid file as 11-18-09 where the one that is corrupted is 02-09-10. Has the bundle ever been offered before? If it has, I am curious what was updated to warrant a new one.

In my opinion, I like the bundle for grabbing many libraries in one shot, but there should also be individual downloads allowed for specific libraries. They are available as your links prove, but why are they not linked on the USB SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS page? As you mentioned earlier, the bundle is a large download for those that need only the USB framework and the stack. I will be doing all the other things eventually, but to get framework 2.6, why do I also need the graphics, TCP/IP, 24F and 24H starter kit, and mTouchCapDemos? All those extracted out to 211mb of extra stuff I wasn't looking for or needed at the moment.

    That's just my opinion.

But I got what I needed thanks to you and I appreciate it!

I am not sure if there are any updates on the USB side since the new file is corrupted. But once it is released properly we can compare the file contents.

I received an email from Technical Support saying they verified the issue and forwarded it to the proper department for correction, so it's coming. I'll check in a couple of days and post when I see it is corrected.
