Connecting TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E to SSD1906

Hi everyone-

I have an Expl16 board with a graphics pictail v2 which contains an SSD1906 chip and a TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E LCD. The board works great with the LCD's built in LCD controller, but I need to test the SSD1906 controller chip. It just so happens that I have a TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E laying around so I thought I could connect this through the J3 RGB Interface and test the SSD1906. I'm not sure if it's just me but the datasheets for both the parts are pretty confusing. Has anyone out there connected one of these LCDs to an RGB controller before? I just need some help trying to figure out if I am making my connections correctly.

I am pretty new to graphics and LCDs so I appreciate any help.

I will attached a schematic of what I think would be the connections between the LCD and the SSD1906. The are the datasheets I looked at:

TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E Datasheet

LGDP4531 Datasheet (controller on LCD)

SSD1906 Datasheet

Thank you!

    I also noticed that the SSD1906 driver requires the HSYNC width, Hor Back Porch, Hor Front Porch, VSYNC width, Ver Back Porch, Ver Front Porch values. However they are not provided in the LCD datasheet.

    Figure 10-12 pf the SSD1906 specification shows the relationships of the various parameters.
    Try using:
    #define DISP_HOR_RESOLUTION    320
    #define DISP_VER_RESOLUTION    240
    #define DISP_HOR_PULSE_WIDTH      12
    #define DISP_HOR_BACK_PORCH    5
    #define DISP_HOR_FRONT_PORCH   31
    #define DISP_VER_PULSE_WIDTH      1
    #define DISP_VER_BACK_PORCH    1
    #define DISP_VER_FRONT_PORCH   1

    Hi Frank-

    Thanks for the reply. I tried your values but the screen stays white with just the backlight on.

    I've never used the TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E but I have connected other displays to the SSD1906. The problem with the TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E is you have to get around its internal controller. Even if the numbers I gave you were wrong you would still get an out of synch picture. You seem to have other problems. Looking at the schematic I can make a few guesses. Just remember these are guesses.
    Pin 14 seems to be the RGB interface enable and should be tied low.
    Pin 10 needs to be connected to an RC circuit for a proper startup. I use a 150K resistor to +3.3 and a .1uf capacitor to ground with pin10 connected at the junction of the resistor and capacitor.
    Pin 36 should be open it seems to be an output.

    If this doesn't work try contacting the Truly people for a reference schematic.

    Good luck.

    Maybe this is not helpfullSmile[sm=rolleyes.gif]
    A reference could be Microchip's Graphics PICtail Plus Daughter Board 2 Info Sheet
    (there i noticed at last page FMARK was not connected.)

    Thanks for the help guys. I've given up on the LCD and now im using an LG LB064V02-A1.

    Datasheet is here.

    I am able to see a picture on this LCD, so I have a feeling that the RGB setting is probably disabled in the controller chip used on the TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E since the datasheet for both the controller and the LCD do not specify how to engage RGB mode.

    okhan: I also have a Expl16 board with a graphics pictail v2 which contains an SSD1906 chip and a TFT-G240320UTSW-92W-TP-E LCD but have been unable to get anything but a backlight to work. Did you use any of the demo programs from the Microchip Application Libraries v2009-11-18 Installer?
    If you have a sample set of programs that you know works, I'd like to try them.

    Gormez, I find myself in a similar predicament. (Sorry to resurrect this thread, by the way)

    I can also get the demo programs to a stage where the backlight turns on, but it flickers more than anything else. It does not appear that the PIC is resetting, though.

    That pictail v2 seems happier using the LCDs own controller, but I want to run it on the SSD1906. I don't quite know enough about these libraries to know what changes are necessary. Did you happen to figure out the problem?
