I examined the voltage. The target used PICkit3. The binary data is firmware of PICkit3 which it read beforehand.
In each versions, the erase action is possible. The wave pattern does not confirm.

The measurement experiment was done.
- PICkit2 ver2.60.00a
Calibration done.Proofreading value 4.08V at calibration
3.3V unit
result:fail
MCLR 3.321V
VDD 3.232V
Afterwards, all were written and it was improper though 3.5V to 2.8V had been tested.

- PICkit2 ver2.55.02
Calibration done. Proofreading value 4.08V at calibration
(1)3.3V unit
result:success
MCLR 3.233V
VDD 3.292V

(2)2.8V unit
result:success
MCLR 2.758V
VDD 2.864V

- MPLAB IDE Ver8.20
result: success
MCLR 3.172V
VDD 3.304V

Have you manually changed the Vdd as the attached photo (supply Vdd from PICkit 2) and see if you can get a chance?

It is the result that adjusted the box part of the part of the picture.

I become the error in verify after write even if I change there into every 0.1V.
 I never succeeded in version2.60.00.

Programming failed at Program Memory address 0x0000XXX
(XXX value is not constant)

However, version2.55.02 can write in even 2.8V without a problem.
At all events I will use 2.55.02 until the problem is clear.

Is the source code for the PICkit 2 Programmer software version 2.60 going to be available?  The link http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1960 only currently contains links up to version 2.52.

We are waiting for the V2.60 source code too, to integrate the SPI Memory Programmer-to-Go into the source code.

(?) Probable bug in PICkit programmer 2.6 VS PIC32 family (?)
------------------------------------------------------
I installed the 2.6 version this morning (I used the 2.5 till now).
I'm selecting the PIC32-340-F256H but, when I try to operate, the message window is telling me "the selected chip is not detected" and it refuses to perfom any operation. The same result selecting some other chips in the PIC32 family.

The strange fact is when I do the "check communication" test: it says "pickit2 found and connected- parts in this family are NOT auto-detect": So, if PIC32 are not detectable, why it says there isn't a pic32?
May be you changed the security test and forget to handle the PIC32 family?

I tested this situation on 2 computers of mine (one with XP and one with WIN98) but the result is the same. I'm keeping the version 2.5 on my computer n.3 because, till now, with the v2.6 I'm unable to program any PIC32...
Meanwhile, version 2.5 is still working as usual, so the pickit2 hardware should be OK...

By the way, when installation of v2.6 was just finished, it asked me to update the firmware, but I'm not sure the  upload of PK2V023200.hex was succesfully.
Where can I read the firmware version I have inside the pickit2?
Tanks.

Alberto,

If PICkit 2 Programmer software is giving the message "pickit2 found and connected- parts in this family are NOT auto-detect" with PIC32 then it means you have the menu "Programmer > Manual Device Select" checked and therefore auto-detect disabled. Uncheck this to auto-detect parts in the PIC32 family.

You can see the version of the software, device file, and firmware by opening the Help > About box.

Tanks,
unchecking the "manual device select" option results in the warning "no device detected, ensure the proper capacitance on Vdd core/Vcap pin" ...and still the programmer refuses to operate.
That's may be the point: I'm using the Olimex PIC32MX board, it's equipped with the pic32MX340F512H (wich unfortunately is not listed in the "pickit2 programmer" device list).
The Olimex protoboard puts the 3.3 voltage on pin n.2 of the ICSP connector as INPUT for the programmer, probably because this is the correct way if you are using the MPLAB-ICD2 device.
But, using PICkit2, I was afraid there would be a conflict because pickit2 uses pin 2 as OUTPUT voltage from the programmer to the board, I'm wrong?
So, I disconnected the pin 2 and this solution always worked good with version 2.5 of the pickit programmer.
May be, version 2.6 wants to read a voltage on pin 2, otherwise refuses to operate?

ps: my firmware is ok and last version.

Yes, this is part of the issue. This PIC32 part is not yet supported by the PICkit 2 Programmer software. You can program it as you probably were by using Manual Device Select and selecting another PIC32 512 device.
However, v2.60 in manual mode now verifies the connected device is the one selected. You can turn this off (as it was in v2.5x) by editing the INI file as described in the Readme for v2.60.

So, I disconnected the pin 2 and this solution always worked good with version 2.5 of the pickit programmer.
May be, version 2.6 wants to read a voltage on pin 2, otherwise refuses to operate?

Please refer to the PICkit 2 User Guide documentation, there are some important points there:
1) The PICkit 2 VDD pin MUST be connected to the target, or PICkit 2 will not work and/or may put a damaging voltage on the target.
2) PICkit 2 works with either PICkit 2-supplied-VDD or Target-supplied-VDD from 2.5V to 5.0V.
3) PICkit 2 auto-detects whether the target has power or not, unless you turn this off under the Tools menu.

In summary, connect PICkit 2 pin 2 to the Olimex board, and this should resolve a number of issues.

OK! problem solved!
Connecting the pin 2 didn't make it work. PICkit programmer detects 4.1 V on my Olimex board but without damaging the components, tanks god.
Anyway still not able to program: with auto detection, it warns "unsupported device id=16000", with manual mode it says again "the selected chip is not detected" and refuses any operation.
I was able to make it work only after editing the .INI file to disable the check feature. At the last, I'm able again to program my Olimex board. :)
Many tanks for help!

Thanks. Somehow the pdf file (PICkit2SourceGuidePCv2-61FWv2-32.pdf) is corrupted. Would you please look into this? Thanks.

A new zip archive should be up later today to fix this.

The PicKit2 can now program the PIC24F08KA201, but it's not available as an option in the lastest MPLAB (8.36)

When I set the target device to PIC24F08KA201 I get a RED LED for PicKit2

Do I really have to run the software externally?

Can we expect future updates for the Pickit 2 standalone software
now that PK3 is around? I just ordered a PK2 :)
