PIC32MZ EF I2C errata

I'm using I2C3 hardware module on a PIC32MZ EF rev. A1. I don't have any rev. A3 chips yet.
In the errata #6 it says:
Revision A3 Silicon Work around
The work arounds described for revision A1 silicon
will also work for silicon revision A3, with the
exception of I2C3, as I2C3 must use a software
“bit-bang” implementation.

Does that mean, the I2C3 hardware module in A3 isn't working at all?

That is what it sounds like.

To be fair, I think the original errata for the A1 silicon also pointed out that I2C3 was non funcitonal in hardware.

I just noticed that latest PIC32MZ EF Family Errata (DS80000663H) says this problem is fixed in the B2 silicon. I'm debating using a PIC32MZ2048EFM144 in a new product. (Our currently shipping product uses a PIC32MX795F512L.) Can anyone confirm if the B2 parts are readily available (worried about receiving A1 or A3 silicon), and that all five I2C ports work as per the datasheet and don't require errata work-arounds. And is there any other "gotchas"

Check Your Parts distributor do verify Availability.  It will require special handling until the Old stock is gone.

Here's an update to the Rev B2 parts:

We are using the PIC32MZ2048EFM144 Rev B2 parts in our product, and the I2C ports work fine. (We are using I2C1, I2C2, & I2C3.) To make sure you get the Rev B2 parts, you have to purchase this partnumber:
    • PIC32MZ2048EFM144-I/PHN23
Unfortunately you can't purchase a few parts at a time as you must purchase them in quantities of 90. sad: sad

That only seem to be a packaging code and not a date code, so I would use caution when buying the chips under that code.  You will probably get B2 parts from Microchip direct (if that's what they said) but may get A1 or A3 parts from a different vendor.

I have a ticket out trying to find the date code(s) for the different silicon revisions since we are having issue with B2 parts.  I've had the ticket open since 7/15/19 and still haven't had any luck getting the date codes.  Never thought it would be this hard. sad: sad
