If you mean "it gets too slow", there is another thread about that, being an issue of Netbeans/java etc

I noticed that the help appears in teeny tiny fonts as well, but that was in the IDE, not the IPE. I think it was the help window that opens along the right edge of the screen, in the MHC. It turns out there's a right-click menu or some key combination (I can't remember) that allows you to enlarge the fonts there... Unfortunately that won't help you in the IPE dialog boxes.

The IDE is implemented in Java using Swing if I remember correctly. I don't know how the IPE is implemented. Either way, most toolkits contain programmable settings whether to scale the windows to your DPI setting or not. It could be that the IPE is set to use absolute pixels rather than scale to DPI.

After much futzing around with settings I have Mplab X almost useable on my 4k screen
I had not tried the IPE, yes it does not respond well to the Windows display settings to make everything visible.
Until the developers/testers have 4k screens this is unlikely to change!

4K screen is overkill for coding, but nice for CAD and graphics.

I find now I only need one screen rather than two or more.
    Have you tried a 4k screen ?

You must have better eyes than I do -- text at 100% scale on a 4K screen -- unless you have huge screen size.

    I do use glasses.
I find 100% scaling is only useful if you make use of the newer features in Windows 10 to change the font size for the individual items: Title Bars, Menus, Message boxes, Palette titles, Icons and Tooltips.
Personally I use %175 scaling and have quite a few windows open.
With all these adjustments and the font size controls within Mplab X I find I can read everything though many times java fails to display some things well and in the case of the IPE the OP is mentioning the IPE fails to respond well to all my efforts.
Mplab X, my Saleae Logic Analyzer, my PCB schematic and Board, the chip pdf, email and frequently a help window or two.

    I do have a 27 inch 4k.
If you have not seen the Windows 10 individual size adjustments they look like this as seen in the attachment ( if the forum permits ).

If like the OP you want to scale everything 200% because the pixels are so small you can't read anything then 4k is obviously a waste.

4k is 8.4 million pixels, I have 8.2 million pixels split across two 30" 16:10 screens. I wouldn't want 4k on anything much smaller which would mean a single 42" screen or preferably the same area in a wider format.

I want the biggest screens and the best resolutions. It doesn't mean I want smaller letters - I just want them sharper.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having triple 32-inch 4K or even 5K monitors, if "money is not a problem."  Or maybe even 50 inches or larger TV as monitor.  One of my former neighbors uses four 42-inch HDTV for his computer setup.
