IPE won't connect with PicKit3

I have a problem with PicKit3 &  mplab IPE (v3.00.02-beta) "Connection Failed"...

History:        PK3 FW v2.00.05 (sure clone with zif socket adapter, win32 (xp))
Having previously programmed 12F685, 18F4550/2550, 16F876 with 'PicKit3 programmer v3.10.00' for some time with no problems.
But with a 16F1786  chip inserted I get "Unsupported Part (ID=2A60)" in device: field. &  "No device detected" in output.
Download FW (PK3OSV020005.hex from PK3 programmer folder), says successful, reconnect ok, but still reports V2.00.05 in help about. ?    Retry mplab IPE but still "Connection Failed" error.

Problem with IPE
Decided to install latest IPE v3.00.02-beta, when PicKit3 is USB plugin, it comes up in Tool: so it can see the PK3, but  when click on Connect  I get "Connection Failed".
Same error "Connection Failed" if I try to manually update PK3 FW from PK3FW_013610.jam

Any suggestions what to now...
I can't find an update for Pickit3 Programmer for later supported device , I did have a "Real" PK3 but gave it away (cant substitute test)

Thanks

    Played a bit yesterday...
Looks like IPE needs the PK3 to be in mplab mode !! (couldn't it have said something meaningful??)
Using pk3 programmer sw to change to mplab mode, (firmware too old error in IPE) but IPE can't download firmware to PK3 due to USB issue.
Installed MPlab V8.92,  I was able to download to the PK3 firmware needed for IPE.
This made a big difference,  now I get an error  saying target volt is 4.75 & should be 5.00. (likely HW)
If I change chips IPE wants to download another firmware to PK3 & fails. grrr....
With correct firmware loaded in PK3 & correct device selected(PIC16F1786) I get a device ID error in IPE (could be USB? issue)
I Understand IPE might have a USB contention with the HID class driver but not sure how to isolate that ATM.
Strange how MPLab8 works better  & "Pickit3 Programmer" program doesn't seem to have any USB issues.

I don't use MPlab & just need to program hex files.
I wish there was an update (device file update? ) for Pickit3 Programmer v3.10 application or how to update the file myself.
    Current PK3 programmer  device file: PK2V023200.dat 13/08/2015 12:52

Hi! I see that you have a not original Microchip's PICkit3. Under Tool  string on your screenshot you can see : "PICkit3 S.No : DEFAULT_P...". The  Microchip's PICkit3 has a serial number like this : BUR123456789 (BURxxxxxxxxx). I have the original one and I have been connected to the PIC16F876. But I have another problem. My original PICkit3 can't program any of the PIC16F876 that I have. I'll try to ask anyone in a new topic. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Sergey.
