Menu Items Disappear

I seem to get into a mode where highlighting any submenu item from a menu item from the top bar causes the entire menu to disappear before I can select anything.  There are no hotkeys for me to work around this and it gets very frustrating.

You're not alone, but I haven't seen any fix or mention of fix for this.  A program restart is the only way I can get it to work properly (for a while) again.

<Alt> key enables the Top menu underlines.
<Alt> W drops Window menu. (MAC may vary)
Arrow keys somewhat 'restore' the submenu items.
This may be related to memory issues, which may be related to MPLABX version.
Check this reference:

Details are what is lacking in this report.
What OS, device, opened Views .... ?

I am having the same issues (and have been for a long time, different versions).
I am using Windows 10 x64 Pro, 16GB RAM and MPLAB X IDE 3.51.
I have tried different JVM settings Xms and Xmx.

Any other suggestions?

I've been experiencing the same problem for months. Win10 64-bit, MPLABX 3.55 (but it happened with earlier versions too). Default window setup. Menu items not only disappear, but they reappear at some distance on the screen. Moving the mouse to the relocated menu then makes it disappear. It's like a videogame designed by a sadist.

Thanks, Annapolis, for the keyboard workarounds. It's still flaky and menus still move around, but at least I can select things.

Same problem here.  I'm using Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, build 14393.953 and MPXLAB 3.55.  12 GB RAM.  I've had this problem with previous versions, too.  Symptoms are the same as shown by JuliaDee.  The keyboard shortcuts provide a limited work around -- but don't work if menus are nested more than two levels deep.  Shutting down and restarting MPLABX sometimes works for a very short while.  I can usually select the desired menu item if I move slowly down the left edge of the list and click on the one I want.  It just takes multiple attempts before I can get to it without the list disappearing.

Still happens in 4.20.
I find that in Windows 7, using the cursor keys generally lets me get to the sub-menu I need, however using the mouse is a total loss with menus appearing and disappearing all over the place!

Unfortunately the path for mplab_ide.conf is incorrectly documented in wikidot http://microchip.wikidot.com/mplabx:jvm-configuration-options.
Correct path on Windows 10 x64 with MPLABX 4.20 is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\MPLABX\v4.20\mplab_platform\etc\mplab_ide.conf"

BTW I never have seen this Menu issue.

Still not fixed in v4.20 under Windows 10.  Exactly the same as what JuliaDee showed above.  Once this occurs, only a restart of MPLAB-X allows the menus to work (for awhile).

Windows 10, v5.00, same thing happening here. Click on "Window" then use arrows, kinda works. What's displayed isn't complete. Doesn't matter if the debugger is running or not.
