Newbie:- PICkit 2 querie re: PIC12F1840

Can the PICkit 2 Programmer (V 2.61, device file 1.62, )S 2.32) actual program this part ?

The Device family only contains  PIC12F508,  PIC12F509, PIC12F510 and PIC12F519.

How to I update it ?

Or have I bought the wrong hardware ?

A puzzled,

pink

Tim

MPLAB will tell you if you select the 12F1840.

I'm using MPLAB X !DE and have not found a way of invoking the 'Programmer'

I'm not familiar with how to drive it other than I have made a hex file after a bit of a struggle.

    Many thanks for responding !

MPLAB 8 & MPLAB X  have NO PICkit 2 enhanced midrange  (PIC16F1xxx or PIC12F1xxxx) support whatsoever.

You *MUST* use the standalone PICkit 2 programmer application and the latest device file (available [here]).  Unzip the update to the stanalone app's folder replacing the original device file.

I put the PK2Device file.dat dated 4th Oct 2011 in the program directory, woke the Programmer up and selected Baseline and Lo the 12F1840 option was not there.

Well I'm inside 'PIC 2 Programmer' and I've selected Device Family/Baseline and not....

Maybe I should archive all the files in that directory and replace with fresh......

Many many thanks for your help !!!!!!

    How do I download PkDeviceFile-1.63.05 ?

Because its got the right PIC driver in it !

I've seen no way of doing that.  So far I've not found a way of getting the 'Programmer' software of accepting any new  .dat software.

    What a mess !

    It is under test ...
    - Download and install the PICkit2 V2.61 for Microchip's homepage: http://ww1.microchip.com/...e%20v2-61-00%20(a).txt
    - Download the DeviceFile update for Microchip's homepage: http://ww1.microchip.com/...K2DFUpdate-1-62-14.zip
    - Rename the original Pk2DeviceFile.dat to save it.
    - Copy the PK2DeviceFile-1.62.14.dat to the directory where the PICkit2 V2.61 installed.
    - Rename the PK2DeviceFile-1.62.14.dat file to PK2DeviceFile.dat
    - Start the PICkit2 V2.61 application.
    - Select Midrange / 1.8V Min
    - Select PIC12F1840

    It is there...

Many thanks to all who have helped me get through this puzzle !

I now have a reasonably creditable 'Programmer' running showing 12F1840.

So its now offering it up to some hardware and writing the hex file successfully is the challenge !

Very great appreciation of the patience every showed as I went from one error to the next !

    A lot happier,
