Problem on Program Memory Update at PIC18F25K22

Everyone, I am facing a problem with PICKit2 (App v2.61; Device File v1.62.09; OS v2.32) when I tried to update PIC18F25K22 firmware. The uC has been Code Protected and EEPROM non-Protected. We will provide a Code only Hex file to our customer to do the update themselves. We were using a expensive PIC18F2520 before and decided to change to cheaper PIC18F25K22 now. Everything works fine on PIC18F2520. A problem appeared when the update tried to verify the code. It says "Programming failed at program Memory address 0x000000" and the uC starts not working. I search via the forum and find someone said that the PICkit will Read the EEPROM and then update everything on uC. Does this situation mean the PICkit has bugs? or does anything related to K-type uC? Please can anyone fix this problem or suggest any possible solutions. Thanks.

    Hi omegawea,

If I am understanding this correctly- you are trying to Preserve EEPROM Data, and only overwrite Program Memory, by unchecking the 'Enabled' box in the EEPROM Data section of the PICkit 2 Programmer application, is that correct?

We did have an issue with this specific case affecting PIC18FxxK22 devices. If what I described above sounds like what you are trying to do, please download the device file attached to this post to replace 1.62.09, and see if it fixes the problem. If you would, please also report back if the device file update fixed your issue, thank you. The included device file will also be available on the PICkit2 homepage in the next couple of days.

Chainu127, You are correct. And the DeviceFile fixed my problem, thank you! I have sent a tickle to Microchip as well. And they keeps asking me to check my circuit setup as it is working on PIC18F2520, it is exhausted to me. Where could you get this update from? I can see you are new member, or you are exactly the Microchip team member?

    Hi omegawea,

I am a Microchip team member, just don't have the "logo"+Moderator next to my name. Smile
We will be adding the device file update to www.microchip.com/pickit2 soon which includes various fixes like the issue you came across as well as new device support.
If you would like to private message me your ticket # and who you were in contact with here, I can explain the fix and ask them close the ticket, or else you can follow up that the problem is resolved.

    Thank you!
