I have an ICD2 R23 and it handles 2010 devices without problem, but I can not reliably program 3010 devices!

I will have to try Olin's fix.

Ok. Tried Olin's fix and it works.

I am using the AC162049 programming adapter (which is just a quick release socket and jumpers to set the power and programming pins) and I didn't want to make any permanent changes so I just installed the two caps to ground, and didn't add any series resistance. Works fine now to program the dsPIC30F3010 parts.

Thanks Olin!

Thank you for this thread!

I am just happy to see I didn't blow up my dsPIC due to my interfacing or <?programming?>. The ICD2 initially recognized the dSPIC30F2010, but after a couple debug cycles displayed the "Invalid target device ID error."

1) Can any harm be done to the dSPIC30F2010 by repeatedly attempting to communicate with an older ICD2 (I know, the definition of insanity... mine is a rev. 15)

2) If one does the mods outlined here, will there be any issues with communicating with other PICS? I also use the 18F452.

Is there a recommended modification that will work with both, preferibly without jumpers?

Thanks for the tips!
