PIC naming conventions (nomenclature)

Is there somewhere a complete descrition about the PIC's model numbers' nameing convention, its structure explained.

I mean something like: 18Fabcd   18 mean the series   F stands for flashable   a (1 - 18 pins - 2 -28 pins, 4 - 44 pins, etc)   b (is the size of the memory doubling with each letter)  c ( 1 - no eeprom ?   2- with eeprom  5- with USB  6 - with ethernet  .... etc)    d (I don't know..)

I found a list in german language:

    http://www.sprut.de/electronic/pic/18f.htm#schuessel

Think it is possible to read it anyway grin
(of course the author gives no guaranty for correctness wink)

cool.thinking what would it take to make such functions incorporated into a hand held device plus pronunciation. Sell it at the airports maybe ;|

Agreed, and because it's so old, it's pretty irrelevant now.
i.e. it only applies to ancient PIC18Fxxx and PIC18Fxxxx chips.
No mention of any of the current generation of PIC18 chips, or any PIC16/24/33/32 chips at all.

This still holds for newest PIC18 chips, but with K in the middle, and also to dead-branch chips with J in the middle.
