PIC18F Starter Kit 1 "SKDE PIC18FJ does not support PIC18F46J50" and IPE 5.40

I would like to program the PIC18F SK1 with the CDC_demo.hex file from the MLA.

I cannot see where I am going wrong, the chip is the 18F46J50, I have looked at the the chip itself, see screenshot.

    Hi,
This is a very old tool (2009) :
    https://asset.conrad.com/media10/add/160267/c1/-/en/000708777ML01/mode-demploi-708777-kit-de-demarrage-microchip-technology-dm180021-1-pcs.pdf
I am not sure it can be used with MPLAB X because the debuger chip is PIC18F67J50...
    You should check with Microchip
If you use MLA you may also need to use the old C18 compiler
It will work with MPLAB v8.92 because the screenshots in the documentation are done with that version

If you really want to do a CDC device class, the PIC18F45K50 is a much better candidate because :
1/ you can use MPLAB X and XC8
2/ it is supported in MCC
3/ it is also supported for CDC device class using MCC USB lite library
    4/ You can use this demoboard + pickit4 :

    Thanks for the feedback.

The 18F sK1 is supported in the most recent MLA. What does work is to use MPLAB X IDE, and compile the demo project.

The demo project specifies the 46J50, and the resulting hardware runs Ok.

    Hi,
    you problem is solved ?
you programmed only the .hex file or you recompiled the project in MPLAB X ?

    Hi

    I recompiled the project in MPLAB X. MPLAB X is happy to use 18F SK1 / 46J50.

(But - why can't I use the IPE? Maybe this in an IPE bug?)

    Hi,
It could be that IPE does not support this old starter kit, but MPLAB X does.
(this could be due to the unusual PIC18F67J50 used for debugging on that starter kit)
It makes sense because IPE is primarily meant for production so it is not expected to handle necessarily starter kits..
    Regards
