There is a RTCC peripheral in the PIC32MX795F512H,
the chip must be powered all the time for this to function.
CPU and other peripherals may be in Sleep mode, with only watch crystal oscillator(SOSC), and RTCC counters operating,
so current will be small, and device may be powered from battery.
Even during a Reset with power available, RTCC will keep values, but may loose some seconds.
You may take care in program code, to not initialize RTCC registers, if they have valid time values.
There exists many external RTCC devices that may run for a long time with a small separate battery and it's own oscillator.
