DSPIC33EV256GM104 operate I2C with 3V3 (as Master)

Dear all,

would it work to operate the DSPIC33EV256HM104 as a I2C master, but the I2C line is only pulled up to 3V3, instead of 5V?

Datesheet, forums, gxxgle, I2C spec etc. have been checked already.

"SMBus thresholds" will probably save you, but your datasheet is strangely short of detail on what they are.
Have a look in the I2C Family Reference manual at http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/70000195g.pdf

An I2C level translator would easily do the trick - providing the 'EV with a 0-5 V signal on the one side, supporting the 0-3.3 V side as well.
