ATSAME54P20A: Can't download any projects onto the SAME54 XPLAINED PRO board

Processor:           ATSAME54P20A
Board:                   Sam E54 Xplained Pro
Windows             10
Ram:                      16GB
The problem:
I don’t appear to be able to download my project onto the SamE54 Xplained Pro board.

------MPLABX 5.4----
I have followed the recipe “Create your first TCP/IP Application”
I got as far as “Test the Application” before things went off-track.

Tried some prebuilt projects but no success.
Worked on the problem for several days before downloading Atmel Studio 7.

Following is a procedure I have taken notes of for the Forum:

Sam E54 Xplained Pro Board: Debug usb connected to PC, RJ45 connected to router.
The board is happily toggling the LED.

MPLABX opens with project ATSAME54XPRO200726 installed (from previous attempts).
Click on:
Build Project (ATSAME54XPRO200726)
Output:
“make -f nbproject/Makefile-SAME54200726.mk SUBPROJECTS= .build-conf

Click on: Make and Program Device (Project ATSAME54XPRO200726):

I click ok: Nothing appears to happen.

The fault lay with the usb cable, on changing it Atmel Studio burst into life, recorgnise the board and offer selected examples, and I was able to debug etc.
