Min rpm of AN1078

hi All,
The app notes says it is tested from 500 to 17000. I like to know what decide the min rpm, Ke of Motor? Our motor Ke is larger than Hurst motor which Microchip used in AN1078. I believe I can get lower rmp?
I have tuned and check the per tuning guide. Everything meet the tuning guide.However, motor can detect some fault omegaflt <0 events in 4-5 hours.
Any sugguest?

    I didn't check in detail, but expect min rpm limitations to come from timer overflow.
    Your omegaflt issue might stem from the same cause. Lowering the timer input frequency might help, at the same time reducing timer resolution. This might affect the overall performance. But you are free to modify the AN's code as this is meant "just for starters".

    the PWM frequency is 8khz and speed calculation is keep one 1ms. Could you please give me more detail about which timer you reference?

    When you dig somewhat deeper, I assumeyou'll find a timer that's used to acquire the current rpms.
    If you sport a BLDC scheme, this might be one (or more) capturing the events from the hall sensors.
    But the other control schemes have to derive their current rpm value in a similar way as well.

    The AN1078 architecture is different with an1017 which you reference I believe.

    OK - got a limpse into that:
    As spedd calculation is derived from back EMF, the amplitude of that is critical. And as back EMF is proportional to the speed, its amplitude becomes too low for reliable operation at some speed. I expect this to depend on the motor's kV value, so your motor's min rpm value might be different from the Hurst one's. Careful filtering of the back EMF value(s) at low rpms might somewhat improve the situation, but there will always be some min rpm value.

    yes, that is what I said my Ke is larger than Hurst motor. Is it possible to say min_speed/Ke is constant for AN1078? or any other factor also affect it, like the minspeed which defined in parameters.h?

    If your "Ke" is my kV, minimum rpms measurable are inversely proportional to Ke. "Tweaking" the EMF measurement might somewhat improve the min rpms, but basically "where's no voltage there's nothing to measure".

    Anyway:
    • One might consider to somewhat amlify the incoming signal (for low-rpm only - includung over-voltage protection for high rpm operation)
    • and/or implement filtering and/or oversampling at low rpms to imrove the resolutiin.
    It somewhat depends on whether you want the motor to run on high rpms as well...

    The picture just show the Ke (Vpk/krpm) but not know why upload failed.
    An1078 already take care about those, amplify circuit and filter.
