Seems I can't save PIC Datasheet PDFs anymore

Anyone else having this problem?  I typically download, and save, the datasheet for whatever PIC I'm currently developing with.  Lately, I haven't been able to do this.  The following things happen:
  1. In Adobe Acrobat I select Save As, but the Save As dialog box comes up blank.
  2. As a workaround I tried Printing it as a PDF.  That worked the other day, but today I got the following message: "This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted."
I'm posting this here, because I'm trying to determine if this is a Microchip issue, or an Acrobat issue.
Thanks.

It's probably a security setting inside the PDF.
Microchip are a bit random about how they set them. Some PDFs let you select and copy text, others don't.
Plainly you are opening the PDF in your browser, then trying to save from there.
You should be able to right click on the link to the PDF on the website, and save the target onto your hard drive.

My default PDF viewer in Windows 10 is M$ Edge, and there is a little down-pointing arrow that downloads the document. I also have Nitro Pro PDF with which I can perform some editing and text selection. Of course, a scanned document is really just an image, but there is OCR software that can handle that.

Your Web Browser should give you the option to Download the PDF directly, without opening it.

Using Windows 10 and Firefox I have no problem saving a data sheet to my computer.

I click on "View Datasheet" on the product information page.  That opens the datasheet in a new tab.  I do have the PDF plugin for Firefox.

From there I click on Firefox's download button which opens a dialog box that gives me choice of opening the file in Adobe Acrobat or saving it to my computer.  I choose save and then I get a prompt for the location to which I want to save the file.

All that said I do recall having problems trying to download a PDF on my wife's computer which defaults to Edge (and also has Windows 10).  I think we had to switch her to Firefox in order for her to download PDFs.

link to one incriminated datasheet?
I wouldn't be so surprised.

Microchip secures MOST of its documents now. But somehow they behave differently -in foxit reader-, in some i can't even copy text which is absurd if i have to copy code examples

Not so, kimosabe.  This is happening within Adobe Acrobat [not the mere PDF Reader, BTW].  I have my Firefox browser setup to transfer PDFs directly to to Acrobat.
