Fix for ICD4 rev 5 connections issue in MPLAB X v5.40

MPLAB X v5.40 ICD4 Tool Pack Update:
Version 1.2.804 of the ICD4 Tool Pack has been released, this will fix a bug where ICD4 Rev 5 units would not connect to devices.  Please update your tool pack in MPLAB X by going to Tools->Packs then select the Tools Packs tab and under ICD4 you will see the 1.2.804 and you can press the install button.  Once installed MPLAB X will use this Tool Pack for ICD4.  Further information can be found in section 5.1 of MPLAB X help. After downloading the tool pack, please re-open any projects that use ICD4.

I am having issues connecting to PIC24FJ64GA702.

The ICD states the device ID is 0x00 is invalid.

Opening 5.10 does not have any issues with the device or setup here.

I have installed tool pack 1.2.161, which is the only one there to update to.

But when programming the device, the summary in the output window states:

    /*Currently loaded versions:
    Application version............01.06.92
    Boot version...................01.00.00
    FPGA version...................01.00.11
    Script version.................00.03.77
    Script build number............648e375535
    Tool pack version .............1.1.776
    Target voltage detected
Target Device ID (0x0) is an Invalid Device ID. Please check your connections to the Target Device.*/

    Hello Bernt,

Take a look at the attached screen shot I uploaded to try to help you -- does this get you back on track so you can upgrade to at least Tool Pack 1.2.804?

    Best regards,

    Ken

    Hello Bernt,

There was never a public MPLAB ICD 4 Tool Pack 1.2.161 so my best guess is that you were inadvertently looking at the Atmel-ICE or EDBG Tool Packs instead of the MPLAB ICD 4 Tool Pack.

You should be able to get up an running once you upgrade to at least MPLAB ICD 4 Tool Pack version 1.2.804.

    Best regards,

    Ken

    I think you are correct.

I have now loaded the correct toolpack.
I had so many issue with this ICD4.
I have now had confirmation from support that I should try IDE 5.45 instead.

    Regards
    X

    I guess you mean "5.45", not "4.45".
