That product's been in gestation for about four years! I thought it was vapourware.

Reminds me of the PIC32WK/PIC32WM

That's the one. I don't know if that ever saw the light of day outside of Microchip.

Looks like the new version has a different microAptiv core. Sadly only USB FS.

Those were vapourware (PIC32WK/PIC32WM). The problem with this new one is that we will have to wait a long time until the silicon bugs appear, and the possible solutions or limitations.

ARM (cortex M) is boring. I'd like to see more accessible cortex R, otherwise i'll keep using dsPICs

There is little support for cortex I have found.
I have had to spend a lot of time finding out problems for myself.
And  I still cant get PWM to work on atsame70n19.
If I put PCK0 on erase pin the processor keeps on crashing.
Even getting a basic running circuit is a mammoth task.
There is just very little support or info on it.

I got caught out with first 64 pin cortex as  I couldnt get it to do USB despite it being advertised as doing USB and details in the datasheet. After a ticket to Microchip they just said "it doesnt work. You have to use 100 pin version for USB."
Unlike the PIC's the cortex throws a wobbler if you try to use programming pins for other functions.
The debugger locks up and you have to do an erase cycle on the cortex before you can program it again.
Its a fast processor but is just far too complicated.

Great.
Does it mean PIC32MZ not gone?

I thought there was going to be a hybrid between PIC32 peripherals with the ARM core, but maybe it will continue with the MIPS core.

The WZ has been in development for years (i think i've heard about it for at least two whole years)
if you follow the github repo for harmony 3 you'll see that they released device files and code examples for the PIC32CM0 (imho inferior to a dsPIC or PIC32MX but whatever, as we estabilished the core is not THAT important and if that will grant us more modern development tools from compiler to debugger well let's switch already)
