Where to define "Enviromental Variables" ?

Hello,
I read the XC16 manual. "5.2.2 Environment Variables" says if a variable  from Table 5-1 is defined the compiler will use it. I have no idea how to define this variable. Can anybody give me a example how to define XC16_C_INCLUDE_PATH in MPLAB X? I know I can enter paths in MPLAB X which will end in the -I option but this is not my question. I will lern the other option.

    Windows?
These settings are accessible via the System Control Panel. To get there really changed from (Windows) version to version  :(
    This one might help:

Or g..gl. for "environment variables setting" (without the quotes) and use wharever links seems to be understandable for you.

Yes, Windows 10. I define the Environment variable XC16_C_INCLUDE_PATH in Control Panel with value C:\tmp and restart Windows and MPLAB X. I place a test Header in C:/tmp but the Compiler will not find the file, so this way seems not working:-(
