MAC OS Catalina 10.15 support patch

We've just released a patch to allow macOS users to run MPLAB X IDE with Catalina 10.15 (removed 32-bit applications). The patch can be found on the MPLAB X IDE page, under the "Java® Platform and Operating System Direction" section here: https://www.microchip.com/mplab/mplab-x-ide

This patch is only needed for MPLAB X 5.30 and older.  The MPLAB X v5.35 does not need this patch.

    On your webpage with patch download link is wrotten:
    Important Note for macOS® Users: The latest version of macOS, 10.15 Catalina, removes support for 32-bit applications. This means that current versions of MPLAB X IDE (up to version 5.40) will not run on this operating system without a patch. While this patch allows for MPLAB X IDE to be compatible with the Catalina update, only the MPLAB XC8 compiler is currently compatible. The MPLAB XC16 and MPLAB XC32 compilers will be updated for compatibility in January.

    I need use XC32, and I didn't update to Catalina yet, because it is still incompatible. Update is important for me, because I develop for
    Xcode too, and it needs Catalina. When Will be fixed XC16 and XC32.

    XC16 v1.50 (current version) is 64-bit.  Still waiting on XC32.

    What PIC are you compiling for?
    Which compiler version are you using?

    Hi,

    I am using Mac with Catalina 10.15.4 and MPLAB IDE v5.35. However I still receive the message "MPASM is not supported on 64 bit Operating Systems." and when I try to build project, it always gives me "sh: /Applications/microchip/mplabx/v5.35/mpasmx/mpasmx: Bad CPU type in executable". I also tried older version IDE with the patch, but still doesn't work.

    I am using PIC16F887 and MPASMWIN(v5.87). Please help me with this issue. Many thanks!

    I tried to use the 64 bit release on MacOS High Sierra (10.13), but the make that is supplied with it was linked on a later release of MacOS and doesn't work on High Sierra.

    A simple fix:
    1. Go to mplabx/v5.35/mplab_platform/bin
    2. [Optional, but safest] Rename or stash away a backup copy of the make that you find there.
    3. In the same folder, create a soft link, also named make, to a version of that tool that works on your system. I used gnu make which I had installed (using brew) at /usr/local/bin/gmake but you could probably just use the one at /usr/bin/make.
    Gnu make worked fine for me.

    $ cd /Applications/Microchip/mplabx/mplab_platform/bin
    $ mv make make_mplabx_original
    $ ln -sv /usr/bin/make make
