Master ? Slave? I do not recognize this terminology in the USB world. The PIC is a USB Powered Device (see configuration in initial post).
 
If you add a too big capacitor, I do not think this is good.

The USB Terminology is "Host" and "Device".  Your Project is a CDC Device according to your First post.?

I agree, for a USB device ISTR the maximum is 10uF Vbus capacitance.
