Error with picgui when compiling for PIC32MK Motor Control PIM and devboard

Hello,

I am very new to the PIC32. I am writing simple code in simulink 2019a using the 3.45 blockset. This is compiled and written to a PIC32MK Motor Control PIM using the dsPICDEM MCLV-2 board and a pickit 3. I then disconnect the pickit 3 and connect a USB cable to the devboard and connect through the picgui interface. Two problems then occur.

1. The picgui doesn't read any data over UART
2. picgui throws an error when I click reset in the gui menu (screen shot attached).

What might be going on?

Hi Darc,

Please have a look on example provided (type picInfo at matlab prompt and follow links)
There are two example for PIC32MK1024MCF100 (single and dual shunt PMSM).
On theses example the UART pinout is A8 for Rx, B9 for Tx.

The cable used is directly connected on the MCLV JP4 Rx and JP5 Tx pin due to high baud rate used in this example (6Mb).

From the message you get with picgui, you have a problem with your UART port from the computer side.
You might try to check first with any lightweight terminal you get something on the UART port. (I am use realterm for such test)

Will do. Thanks. Prior I was using the mini usb (J8) to connect over uart. If I move to JP4 or JP5 I will need to use a FTDI chip like this one (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14050), correct?

Sparkfun has great product, but prefere that one: https://www.ftdichip.com/Products/Cables/USBMPSSE.htm
the C232HD-DDHSP-0 cable goes up to 12Mb. At least, get a cable that goes up to 1Mb.

After disconnecting the PIM from the devboard (and thus wiring directly to the PIM) I was able to read the UART signal.
