The program file could not be loaded: Invalid file offset requested

Though struggling mightily,
I've yet to be able to use a debugger with MPLAB X v5.05 .
Usually, if I try to make a debugging build, MPLAB complains
"The program file could not be loaded: Invalid file offset requested".
One time it had a lot of complaints about Buttons.i .
After removing all the .i files and trying again,
I got the quoted message.

Searching brought me to the suggestion
that I should update to at least 2.3.0 .
Not a real help.
An alternative suggestion was to use coff instead of elf.
No idea how.

How do I debug with MPLAB X?
If I need coff, how do I do that?

What device family/PIC model are you compiling for?

You would change a setting in the project properties. Top left icon on the project toolbar.

    I also post at: PicForum
Links to useful PIC information: http://picforum.ric323.co...opic.php?f=59&t=15

To get a useful answer, always state which PIC you are using!

    I've got a PIC32MX795F512L.

    I can find properties ok,
but the bit that lets me change from elf to coff eludes me.
