ATtiny CRCSCAN Failures

My ATtiny1614 bootloader initiates a CRCSCAN (priority mode, all of flash) at the start of the world to confirm both bootloader and app have good CRC and are thus able to run.
We've been able to induce failures (CRC reported as bad) on a micro that's loaded up with known good firmware - IDE verify compare proves flash is not corrupted - but we get a failed CRC reported.  This failure case was induced by messing around (actuating rapidly) the on/off switch on the bench supply to our board.  This leads me to believe there are power-related failure mode(s) for CRCSCAN.  More importantly, we are finding fielded systems that are experiencing this failure spontaneously (versus by having someone messing purposely with input power).
Is this a known issue with the CRCSCAN peripheral?  Are there any suggestions on getting more solid results from it under various power conditions?
Thanks for any assistance.

Although Microchip now own the Atmel MCUs, these forums are mostly used by PIC-knowledgeable people.
You may be better off looking at the older Atmel support forums.
