Need help with the "red blob"

I have just upgraded to MPLAB X IDE 5.2 from 4.2
and XC8 2.00 to 2.05
when using 4.2 they would show up when first starting IDE but go away after 5 to 10 seconds
now there always there and the yellow highlighting does not work on them
is there a quick fix
I have rebooted / restarted many times
thanks

There are some workarounds, which sometimes work and sometimes doesn’t. I’m with dan1138 here. As long as I’ve been using MPLAB X, I’ve seen the "red blobs", hence it must be feature, not a bug.

I agree, but trying to highlight any of them to find all the places that are used is a pain in the ASS
    using ctrl-F
there must be a way like I said 4.2 was fine

I’ve seen "Find Usages" failing to display all results, although there where no "red blobs". As annoying as it is, CTRL-F is your friend.

Actually I’d call the parser FUBAR (fu…. up beyond all repair). I can’t tell if this is a Netbeans or MPLAB X issue, but I wouldn’t count on it that this issue will be resolved prior to MBLAB X 20.0. Hopefully it will be released prior to my retirement date…

You might open a support ticket regarding your issue, but I’d seriously doubt that it would lead to a real solution.

    Usually this helps:

Project tab > Right click on your project name > Code Assistance > Reparse Project

Actually for me the "Find usages" works in more than 99% of the time correctly. And I use its shortcut ALT+F7 very regularly, and I like it very much. However, I also had some cases where it didn't bring up all occurrences, although my code compiled. "Find usages" is really good for navigating in your project. But better not rely on it to always show all occurrences. If you need to make sure, then CTRL-F in the project tab is more reliable.

Disable the spell-checker or remove the spell-checker plug-in.

MPLab X playing up, bug in your code? Nevermind, Star Trek:Discovery will be with us soon.

    thanks but that's not it
the strange thing is I opened the project in 5.20 it said it would convert and not usable a lower version
I selected YES and still RED everywhere then opened it in 4.20 RED everywhere then 5 sec later all gone
then opened MCC changed system clk set it back, do generate
ran debugger and it all works................
should I delete the "VAR" folder as mentioned in a other thread
