Files not added to git repository

Hi all, how are you?.

I'm trying to make a repository for a project that I'm  working on, I've initializated the git repository, added the folder where the git repository to the general properties of the project itself and after that MPLAB X v5.10 alowed me to add the project to the repository, the problem is that it only added the project and not the files in it whic are until now:

  • adc_h
  • bits_de_configuracion_c

I've tried to added to right click over the file but the option to add them to the .git repository doesn't appear.

What am I doing wrong? and thanks in advance for the help.

I' attaching some images.

It's a good idea to review your own post.

Then you would recognize that it did not work as you probably expected.
Don't try to use code tags for URLs.  (you are using the code tags wrong anyway).
Your images on tinypic.com are really tiny, what should we do with them ?

Just to ask the obvious, are you sure that all the files are inside the repository folder?

Hi Andersm, provably not but I'm not sure, I've created the repository in a label different to the label where the project is, is that made in the wrong way?

Git only tracks content inside the repository, ie. under the same location where the ".git" folder was created. If you created your files elsewhere, you will first have to move them inside the repository before they can be added.

If you open the repository in another git client, or use "git status" on the command line, does it show any untracked files?

Well, I can't find the console window but I can say to you that the ".git" folder is in another folder, not where the project is.

Right now I can si that this is an error of mine but I did this thinking in connect that repository with my github repository, is this possible?. I want to do that because I'm working in more than one computer and I wanna have access to the project from internet.

If this is possible, how can I do that?

It is definitely possible, but you may need to use another git interface than MPLAB X.

Hi, how are you?. I've another question, can I repair the project or, I mean, unlink the project from the git repository to create a .git repository at the right way? or on the contrary, do I need to erase the project and create a new on?.

You can try deleting the .git folder, which is where the repository is stored.

Thank you again, bassically I had to recreate the project to realize that MPLABX doesn't show the status of the file in the popup window although the procedure of the repository is done normally.

I've anothe question, I'm wonrking on creating a branch for each feature that I'm doing with the PIC, I mean, one for ADC, another for interrupt handling and so on but when I'm looking on how to do it at the netbeans tutorial (https://netbeans.org/kb/docs/ide/git.html#branchCreate) it says that I need to ""type a specific revision of the selected item by entering a commit ID...", the problem is that I don't understand what to do there and because in that field appears the "master" with what I suppose is it ID so what ID can be put there?, I don't know what to do there.

There's a ton of good resources available online for free that will teach you the basics of how to use Git (eg. Pro Git to name just one.)

    Hi,

If you look under the 'Team' menu, there is an option [Branch/Tag]
under there is the option to [Create Branch].
Just make sure that any changes not committed in the code you are 'branching from' are saved or committed, otherwise you get into a mess of 'conflicts' when you eventually 'Merge' this new branch back into the main code.

    Regards

    Brandon

    Hi,
Not sure what exactly you are referring to with Branch ID?
When you select [CREATE BRANCH] a window opens with the cursor in 'Branch Name',

that name can be anything you like, but more useful if it describes the reason for the branch...
    i.e. 'Fix_USART_Bug' etc. etc.

    Regards

Hi Brandon, sorry for the delay. I was confused and made a mistake with this, the ID that appears in the menu Create brench is the commit ID.

Hey, I've recently found that it is possible to do it from mplab itself, look at the attached image.
