MPLABX V5.05 IDE Running too slow :

Hello,

How do I speed up MPLAB IDE V5.05 or Future Version(s) . I have Dell System Intel i5 M480,RAM 4GB , Frequency @2.67 GHZ , SSD Harddisk 120 GB running with windows 7 32-bit OS.

I have to work the Harmony 2_06 (Or Future Releases) , MHGC , Graphic Composer and Display Manager for TFT  etc.. On the right bottom, MPLAB IDE V5.05 gives warning Lack of Memory .

On user manual of MPLAB X on Page 151 .
http://ww1.microchip.com/...eviceDoc/50002027D.pdf
guided for increase the Heap of PC .. under file below:
C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPLABX\v5.05\mplab_platform\etc     ->mplab_ide (CONF file)

What is the maximum value  I have enter in mplab_ide (CONF file) as per my system configuration ?
 -J-Xss2m -J-Xms256m -J-Xmx1024m
I am only installed MPLAB X and MS Office in this system.
Any other clue for speed up ?

IMHO as soon as you add Harmony into the mix, 4GB becomes a marginal MPLAB X development system.

I'd be looking at increasing your RAM, but regrettably you'd need to upgrade to a 64 bit OS also which is probably a far bigger headache.

Agree, more RAM would be good.
However, also make sure the MPLABX folder is excluded from your virus scanning.
NETBEANS suffers badly from its JAR files being continually scanned.

Nearly there...

From the MpLabX 5.10 readme

MPLAB X IDE is a software program that is used to develop applications for Microchip microcontrollers (MCUs) and digital signal controllers (DSCs). This development tool is called an Integrated Development Environment, or IDE, because it provides a single integrated “environment” to develop code for embedded devices.
MPLAB X IDE v3.xx and above is based upon the NetBeans 8.0.1 platform.
MPLAB X IDE v1.xx and 2.xx are based upon the NetBeans 6.9.1 platform.

2       System Requirements

64-bit Windows is required for reasonable performance using MPLAB X IDE. MPLAB X IDE can run on a 32-bit Windows installation, but you will likely experience very poor performance. We strongly encourage you to update your operation system to 64-bit Windows prior to installing MPLAB X IDE –> Continue (MPLAB X IDE may perform slowly)

And as predicted you are experiencing slow performance.

The RAM is huge.  4G will run MPLAB X, but if you want to do real work (like Harmony), you need to bump up to 8G.  And, as already mentioned, make sure your virus checker is not scanning every file MPLAB X opens.  MPLAB X opens and re-opens repeatedly a lot of different jar files.  Virus checking will bring MPLAB X to it's knees.

Also, while not official yet, you can likely expect a statement, probably by the end of the year, indicating that future versions of MPLAB X will only work on 64 bit systems.  :)

Maybe you could read this ( as mentioned in the Fine Manual MpLab X read me for 32 bit systems ) http://microchipdeveloper...-configuration-options
